A Hallam midweek home game was abandoned due to fog
Hallam's Senior Cup tie v Bentley Colliery never entered the second half. Fog brought the encounter to a close after 45 minutes.
The score at the time of abandonement was 1-1
The two sides will try again on WEDNESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER, THE LEAGUE CUP TIE V ROSSINGTON MAIN AT SANDYGATE IS OFF, REARRANGED DATE TO BE CONFIRMED
Stocksbridge Park Steels, Frickley Athletic, Worksop Town, Brodsworth Welfare, Worsborough Bridge Athletic and Hemsworth Miners Welfare will be in the hat for the Quarter Finals with us or Bentley.
Tom
I'm actually wanting to go to Hall Road Rangers vs Hallam or Athersley Recreation vs Hallam Reserves on the Saturday 8th November, unfortunately there is no way I can get to either.
I do live out in Derbyshire but I'm willing to be in Sheffield to get a lift if anyone could help... my email is chapelkid@hotmail.co.uk
I will leave this up until Thursday the 8th of November at 7pm. If nothing is sent to me by then I will be making alternative plans to get to A game local to me.Thanks in advance
Tom
Hallam lost 3-1 at home to Pickering Town while I watched two games today. Blazing Rag v Bradwell Sports in the Derbyshire Divisional Cup North, playing was Hallam's Under 19s striker Ben Maskrey (who I went to school with 3 years ago) starting for Bradwell. Then I had to endure 90 minutes of Buxton vs Marine, a waste of £4, Buxton weren't going to win ever due to Marine's lack of sportsmanship. At both games it was blowing a gale and driving rain poured down.
Next up is the tricky trip to Winterton Rangers in the President's Cup on Wednesday evening.
Tom
Now it probably is a relief we are at home tomorrow afternoon, our 3rd home game of the season and against a Pickering Town side who have been unable to win at Sandygate in their last three visits instead falling to 3-1, 5-0 and 3-0 defeats. With Pickering sitting 2nd in the league unbeaten away from home it will be a tough game. However with the unpredictable nature of this league anything can happen. Just look at Tuesday night's game at Bridlington Town and last Saturday's three shock results.
Hallam definitely have a team that is capable of beating anyone at this level and at Step 4. The question is finding it, I refuse to doubt Darren Bland, his 14 is the 14 he thinks is capable of winning a match. Luck hasn't been with us yet I think this a blip. 7 games without a win is I think leading to something good. It may well be a blessing in disguise for us.
We have three cup games coming up in the next 18 days, three games we can win, two of them of which I think will be high scoring and a chance to instill confidence in the players.
I have confidence in Hallam. There is nothing to say we can't win silverware, (President's Cup, Senior Cup, League Cup) and finish above 6th. I believe 100% Hallam will produce performances and upset a lot of opposition fans with big wins. We have quality, lets exit the blip and go out and believe in ourselves
Good Luck to any players reading, I sadly can't get to the game but I will be looking out for the result
Tom
Another defeat, this time to Nostell Miners Welfare 2-1. Just what is going wrong at this club? Were on a serious low, we can't win to save our lives
I'm probably like a lot of other fans at the moment, I'm seriously worried. We have quality but were 14th
Tom
A 1-1 draw in what has to be said a rather high tempered local derby, Richard Carrington got Hallam's goal on 82 minutes after Johnson had given the Steelmen a 69th minute lead
Parkgate were reduced to 10 men after a mass brawl involved 20 players, for something no-one saw although the player was walking and had his shirt off before the red card was produced.
Next up is Nostell away on Tuesday night, Nostell's key player Oli Johnson has just signed for Stockport County becoming the latest non-league player to join a professional club
Tom
Hallam will face tough opposition travelling to Green Lane to face 9th placed Parkgate, a side 3 points ahead of us having played 2 extra games. This should be a fierce local derby, just 13 miles seperates the two sides. And after previous games between the two this encounter should be one to see
Hallam's form at Green Lane is as follows: Parkgate 1 Hallam 4 - 07/08 season but our form at Sandygate is forgetable, Hallam 2 Parkgate 6 - 05/06 Senior Cup Q/F, Hallam 0 Parkgate 1 - 06/07 Senior Cup Q/F and Hallam 0 Parkgate 5 - 07/08. Our victory at Green Lane should give us confidence knowing we can go and beat the Steelmen.
Hallam's recent jumpy form has lead to 13 points after 9 games, hopefully. This can be 16 from 10 by beating our rivals. We have the players to do it
COME ON HALLAM ![]()
Tom
Hallam vs Bentley Colliery
Athersley Recreation vs Hallam Reserves
Hallam have arguably the easiest game in the Senior Cup, Bentley are bottom of the Central Midlands Premier Division
Athersley Recreation are in the Sheffield County Senior League Premier Division
Games will be played in November: The 5th looks the most likely date for the Senior Cup tie and the 8th for the Reserves game
Tom
On Saturday our reserve side thrashed Huddersfield & District First Division side Wooldale Wanderers 6-0, they go through to Round Two...
Reserves and Under 19s fixtures and results updated.
Hallam drew 1-1 with Maltby Main, there wasn't a Next Match Preview, I have had a terribly busy week and I couldn't get one completed. I also chose not to go as I have important work on at the moment
On Saturday November 15th Hallam entertain Armthorpe Welfare at Sandygate, back to back Saturday matches with them and our first trip to Eagle Valley the new home of Arnold Town, sandwiched in between.
I'm not going to voice my personal opinion at the moment on what some people call a poor start. I'm going to leave it till mid November to decide, its too early yet.
Our defeat to Mickleover Sports two weeks ago shouldn't be frowned upon too much, Mickleover now lead the Premier Division in very convincing style bearing in mind they've played at home just twice in nine games and have games in hand over those around them.
Tom
Hallam out the FA Vase 3-1 at home to Alsager Town, two penalties and another Dean Clarke goal. Whats going wrong?
Tom
I'm sorry to announce I won't be at tonight's match with Alsager Town, not my own choice not to come.
I'm terribly, terribly disappointed at something that was not my choice.
I was looking forward to tonight's game after a really tough start to the week. This obviously won't happen now
Tom
This game is even more special for me now, it will be the 100th game I have seen Hallam play and although its been a long time coming, a home FA Vase tie is the perfect time to do the 100th.
Hallam face an Alsager Town side that did well to hold Hallam out in the first half at the Town Ground, many Alsager Town fans know this and so will Alsager's players. However in the second half we scored but also could of conceded more than the one. We always looked in the danger of conceding a third (from my view anyway). But we kept our nerve and held out for extra-time. These extra minutes are complusory when the match is level in the Vase, it didn't do either side much good.
On Wednesday we must remember the slope we have at Sandygate, 120 minutes of football on the slope would be harder than the 120 minutes on Alsager's slightly sloping pitch. If we come out and get the goals required in the first half when we look dangerous, we will win: simple as that. There has been too many occasions where we have grabbed no goal or one when we have had good chances and lost. This must not happen on Wednesday night
The best side on the night will win though, if I'm honest whether its 90 minutes and a 3-0 win or a 0-0 After Extra Time and a 9-8 win on penalties, I really don't mind. The Vase is something we can do well in.
The added incentive is a home tie vs Maine Road or Runcorn Linnets and the chance to take a trio of NWCFL sides out the Vase, something we haven't achieved, never knocking out three sides in the same league out of either the FA Vase or FA Cup.
I look forward to the game, I'd advise anyone going to wrap up, midweek games at Sandygate from October onwards are often very cold ones.
Tom
Hallam will face Maine Road or Runcorn Linnets if we beat Alsager Town on Wednesday night on Saturday 15th November at Sandygate
Should we fail to overcome Alsager Town I will immediately delete this message
The Runcorn Linnets vs Maine Road replay is on Wednesday night and I will be getting updates and sending updates to Wincham Park, Witton (Runcorn's current home ground)
Tom
The Alsager Town replay has effected fixtures slightly this week:
Wednesday 8th October: Hallam vs Alsager Town - FA Vase Replay
Saturday 11th October - Hallam vs Maltby Main - League
The Under 19s fixture vs Teversal on Wednesday is now off. The Reserves away match at Handsworth Reserves is also off, Handsworth 1sts are using the floodlit pitch in a Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup tie vs Maltby Main
Tom
I'm delighted to announce Hallam have signed the highly rated Karl Colley from Alfreton Town, the giant defender has also played for Stocksbridge Park Steels and Retford United.
Tom
Hallam and Alsager Town will do it all over again on Wednesday night after 2 hours of football couldn't seperate two tired teams.
Alsager took a 25th minute lead through Dean Clarke after a mistake in Hallam back line, Hallam equalised on 51 through a header by Rob Ward before Kurt McCarthy scored a flukey 40 yard shot similar to Mickleover's last week. Within 4 minutes Richard Patterson had got Hallam's second with a low header.
Extra-time couldn't muster another goal, it ended two each.
Tom
I will not be able to update this website from 7:30am tomorrow morning as my sister has a fixture very early on and I won't be able home until 12:00pm at least.
Please check www.ncel.org.uk also there is an Alsager Town fan travelling from South Wales, the uncertainity he'll have will be far worse than any Hallam fan...
Also http://www.alsagertown.org.uk/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=2285bd50d8aebe0e53359b5a862d0eda should have an update. If not and the NCEL website is clear, www.nwcfl.co.uk.
If all three of these sites say GAME ON, do presume it is GAME ON.
If I'm back and have time I will post a confirmed update. Presumably after 12:15pm though most will have set off or will be. I'm aiming to be on my way at 1:15.
Tom
SHOULD THE GAME BE OFF AND AS A GENERAL REMINDER: HALLAM RESERVES VS PARRAMORE SPORTS WILL BE ON 3:00PM KICK OFF AT SANDYGATE.
No matter what this is our next game, whether this Saturday or with a weather interruption next Tuesday. I can't hide my excitement for this game, its only the 1st Round but after Vase fever last year I was for two rounds unable to enjoy I definitely want a Hallam Vase run this season for many reasons. Firstly its for the club itself, the prize money, the days out (particularly after Round Three) and for the publicity. Vase runs are known for boosting publicity, Kirkham and Wesham now AFC Fylde were given much TV coverage on Granada and North West regional news. My other main reason is for myself, as I said last year I didn't travel to Winsford or Ashton Town but I'm in my final year at school. I want to be part of something special, no matter if its 3rd Round again or the very latter rounds, this side is capable of beating anyone Step 5 or Step 6 on its day, this has been proved to me many times.
Now back to the reality of it. Hallam face a very tough test in Alsager Town, they were demoted from the Unibond last season after failing with their ground inspection, some what a surprise at the time. Last season Alsager had two owners who in many peoples opinion took apart the Cheshire club, they are back in the North West Counties Premier Division having been promoted just 3 seasons ago. I hear this year Alsager (as they were on the brink of folding in the Summer) don't have the crowds they did a step higher, so far they have seen a 37% reduction in crowds including the local derby vs Congleton Town. A real shame to see but at least they still exist, in the summer they looked gone.
I'm led to believe Alsager have lost quite a few players from that 14th place finish in the Unibond South last season which was quite a good league, NCEL sides promoted in 06/07, Carlton Town, Sheffield and Retford United all finished higher but this means nothing. I have watched NWCFL football and I can assure anyone the teams I have watched are good. My most feared draw should we win would be the winners of New Mills v Glossop North End, a game that is set to attract 600+. They I know are incredibly strong sides, New Mills in particular have a strong fanbase.
Alsager's start to the season has been of the up and down variety, they have played two league games more but lost those two fixtures. They've played 6 at home and 4 away, 2 home wins and 4 home defeats. They've also scored 15, we've scored 16 in three of our fixtures, 23 in all. Goals scored per game averages = Alsager - 1.5 per game and Hallam 2.9 per game. Goals conceded per game averages = Alsager - 1.6 per game and Hallam 1.625 per game. Of course these are only statistics they are in our favour.
My main worry is the possibility of the game being postponed, not only will we face a chronic fixture list but at least from our point of view, several players and some people at the club won't be able to do a midweek trip to Alsager. This would from Sandygate be a 2 hour trip on a Saturday (though it could be done in 1 hour 45 mins), more though at rush-hour.
Currently it has rained non-stop for 3 days here on the Western Pennines, fortunately I am assured it will be game on unless something major happens
I hope all players, fans, staff at the club have a safe journey over to South East Cheshire.
COME ON HALLAM!
Tom
Hallam won't be making a midweek trip to Winterton on Wednesday night as they drew with Newcastle Benfield in the FA Cup.
Result from Phoenix Sports Complex: Phoenix Sports Club 0 Hallam Reserves 5
The good, the bad and unwatchable, that could be describing the officials decision's today. Actually it is not, it is describing Hallam's performance today. The good was the first 9 minutes, Batesy cutting in well to slot in Hallam's only goal of the game. Hallam's attackers always looked dangerous and this was a positive all game long.
The bad, well there wasn't much of it Sports could of had more than four, it was below average defence and midfield play for parts of the game. The unwatchable was the goals themselves, two 25 yard thunderbolts, one header and a great shot from 15 yards. Hallam simply didn't mark the opposition well enough all over the pitch, it wasn't brilliant.
The officials: one ok linesman, the other terrible and the referee, confusing!
We must look ahead now, despite the defeat...
ALSAGER TOWN VS HALLAM F.C NEXT SATURDAY AT THE TOWN GROUND, WOOD PARK, ALSAGER
UP THE HALLAM FOR THE 1ST ROUND PROPER VASE TIE
TJ
Hall Road Rangers Away - 6th December now 8th November
Rossington Main Home - League Cup now 12th November
The FA Carlsberg Vase 2nd Round takes place on Saturday 15th November, should we beat Alsager
Hallam came from behind to edge out Winsford United in a dramatic FA Vase game, Hallam went 1-0 up after 20 minutes through a header but Winsford curled a 51st minute equaliser before a deflected shot put them 2-1 up with 23 minutes to go. With Hallam looking simply atrocious, they made changes and on 82 Richard Patterson lashed in on the angle, the game was headed for a replay before James Tevendale slotted home with 88 minutes gone
Hallam go to Alsager Town in 2 weeks time. All travel info will be up by Sunday.
Very big well done to the players for a fantastic win
£900 bagged by Hallam for the win.
Tom
Tuesday 23rd September - Possible FA Vase Replay at Winsford United - First Team
Wednesday 24th September - Hallam vs Handsworth - Under 19s
Saturday 27th September - Hallam vs Mickleover Sports - First Team
Saturday 27th September - Phoenix Sports Club vs Hallam Reserves
Wind the clock back one year to 22nd September 2007 and you have Winsford United vs Hallam in the FA Vase at the Barton Stadium. Scott Bates got the winner to send Hallam into an away tie with NWCFL Division Two side Ashton Town. This year Hallam entertain Winsford United at Sandygate, a win would yet again give us an away tie to a NWCFL side, this time Alsager Town.
There is no doubt this will be a tough game, Nostell Miners Welfare came from 3-1 in the last 5 minutes of their FA Cup tie with Winsford United to draw 3-3. They went back to Nostell and the Welfare won the 3-0. Bearing this in mind Winsford will be up for it
Recent form of both sides has been indifferent, Hallam’s up and down results, Winsford have played 6, won 4, lost 2, scored 12, conceded 6. Rather good form but Hallam have played 7 games and scored 22 goals. In 2 of those we scored just 1. The statistics don’t really aid a prediction but on Hallam's home record last season in terms of goals I'd be inclined to say a home win.
Its a cup game so the formbook won't really matter, the best side on the day will win. Should we get taken to a replay I know it will not be an easy task, 70 miles is a hell of a long trip in midweek and we don't want to have to make that journey, psychologically they take an advantage knowing the trip we must make.
See everyone at the match on Saturday
Tom
The site is 3 years old this week, Friday 19th September 2008. To mark this occasion I will go back to the original site design.
I think the most recent design was poor and the original design will stay until Christmas time at least.
Tom
This result is terrifying, I knew Hallam were capable of annihiliating anyone but to go to Eccleshill and win 6-1 is amazing. A superb bounceback performamce, I will now never doubt this Hallam side!
| Eccleshill United Liam King 11 |
1-6 | Hallam Darren Holmes 30 Rob Ward 47, 77, 89 Scott Bates 55, 58 |
Att: 35 HT: 1-1 |
Eccleshill United 1 Hallam F.C 6 - our biggest away win in the league for sometime. We have not won this well away from home since 24th April 2000 when we put Pickering Town to the sword 8-2 at Mill Lane.
Fantastic win for everybody at the club and going into the Winsford United game its a huge boost. Batesy well done coming back into the side and scoring
See everyone at the match next weekend
Thanks
Tom
It is in my opinion now fair to call the run of results a rot. After 3 splendid results against Shirebrook, Lincoln and Selby we have now lost 3 on the bounce. The latest being at Brodsworth Welfare. With such a good start and such a bad last three games we head to Eccleshill having to win really.
| Brodsworth Welfare Liam Wilkin 13, 52, 88 |
3-2 | Hallam Rob Ward 10 Richard Carrington 59 |
Att: 38 HT: 1-1 |
The dangerman got all three. My main gripe is the timing of the Brodsworth goals, the last one especially. Eccleshill will be a lot harder, they haven't picked up a point yet and on Hallam's current form something will give, tonight it has.
I just hope something changes and fast. An FA Vase run would be something I'd love to be a part of with Hallam, on current form we'll be playing Winsford United with player's heads dropping down towards the floor.
If this means changing the style of play, by all means change it. If players have to drop to the reserves then so be it. Things need to change.
I wasn't there tonight but I know its a bad defeat just by looking at the goal times.
Tom
After no weekend game this is one we should feel we can win, after precisely 5 home games Brodsworth have nil points and have conceded 16 goals. You could say they won in the FA Cup but that was against weak opposition from a level below.
The last time I went to Brodsworth was in 2006/2007 season around March time. I had never before that night seen a Hallam side play so well, we won 4-0 and Batesy got a double and should have had more. Although this was the weakest ever top division side it was 4-0. Last season they finished a very respectful 13th place and actually beat us. We must remember Brodsworth are unpredictable and can be a jack-in-a-box of a team, jump out and beat you.
The dangerman for me is Liam Wilkin who does score, he hasn't scored in three games but in my opinion is due a goal. Hopefully if he does play we score ourselves and don't have to worry about him
One Wednesday night Hallam also have the Reserves and Under 19s playing but I don't have a clue what time the Reserves kick off. Under 19s game is a 7:45 kick off at Dinnington.
Good Luck to all teams involved on Wednesday night wherever you travel.
Tom
NOSTELL MINERS WELFARE VS HALLAM IS OFF
The game has been rearranged for Tuesday 21st October.
I'm doing this for Monday 1st to Sunday 7th and Monday 8th to Sunday 14th. I intend for this to become a regular feature in the News section as the Reserves longest trip will be around 20 miles, only the Rotherham based sides provide any travelling.
Monday 1st September - Dunkirk 3 Hallam 0 - Under 19s Fixture
Saturday 6th September - Nostell Miners Welfare OFF Hallam - First Team
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday 10th September - Dinnington Town 2-0 Hallam - Under 19s Mini Shield Group E
Wednesday 10th September - Brodsworth Welfare 3-2 Hallam - First Team
Wednesday 10th September - Bramley Sunnyside Juniors 0-0 Hallam Reserves
Saturday 13th September - Eccleshill United 1-6 Hallam - First Team
Saturday 13th September - High Green Villa 2-1 Hallam Reserves
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Midweek fixtures are physically impossible home or away and there is a huge chance I won't be at Eccleshill.
UPDATE: I'm not away this weekend due to the adverse weather, check for updates on site on Saturday morning.
Tom
Hallam will face another tough encounter this weekend this time at The Welfare Ground home of Nostell Miners Welfare, somewhere where we have never won. Luckily we have only played there twice, a 1-0 friendly defeat on a freezing cold night in New Crofton and a 3-1 defeat after taking a 1st minute lead
After two defeats on the bounce, we have to bounce back on Saturday, a draw or defeat is not an option. We cannot fall into a rot, otherwise this will make the easier games at Brodsworth and Eccleshill a bit more important. A Hallam team on its day should absolutely annihiliate both of these teams.
On the current table a few sides up there really have had a good start particularly Maltby Main and Hall Road Rangers, the others do not surprise me one bit. We are in a mini blip and we need to exit it as soon as possible.
Should Batesy return to the fold tomorrow Hallam will have an important player back, he gives us another dimension, it is something we have lacked in the two games I've seen. The strikers need to be converting, we missed a hatful at Liversedge and payed for it. I don't think this will continue this weekend.
For anyone travelling, check out the Away Travel Guide for information on Nostell.
UP THE HALLAM ! !
Thanks
Tom
The Match Report is now on site, 20:10 and a 'highlights' video will follow. The link will be in Snapshots and Videos when done.
Thanks
Tom
Many would have left the Clayborn dumbfounded as to how Liversedge sneaked a win past an impressive Hallam. After an own goal put Hallam ahead on 50 it looked as if 3 pojnts would be sailing back to Sandygate but as it were 2 late goals won it for Liversedge.
Despite the defeat I 100% praise the players for the first 80 minutes performance and how professional it was. This defeat has put us two without a win but on this show, how aren't we 2nd?
Tom
Hallam have reintroduced a reserve side into the Sheffield County Senior League. Hallam's last reserve side competed in the Sheffield County Senior League and had done so for a number of years until departing in 2003, most of the time was spent in the Premier Division
This season the new reserve side will compete in the Sheffield County Senior League Division Two, this is 6 levels below our current first team.
In Hallam Reserves division is: Aston, Athersley Recreation Res, Bramley Sunnyside Juniors, De La Salle Old Boys, Handsworth Res, High Green Villa, Parramore Sports, Penistone Church Res, Phoenix Sports Club, Shafton & District, Sheffield Bankers, Thorncliffe
Here are a few fixtures: Bramley Sunnyside Juniors AWAY on Wednesday 10th September, High Green Villa AWAY on Saturday 13th September, Phoenix Sports Club AWAY on Saturday 27th September.
I would appreciate more information about the reserves for the purposes of this website, i.e manager, whether Sandygate is the home ground, etc etc , should I get enough info I will be obilged to make a page for the reserves on this website. This would include fixtures, results, league table etc etc. This would be great as many people would love to see the Reserves at home if the first team are away. I would also consider making an Away Travel Guide for the reserves.
I feel a reserve side represents the club's progress, we have the squad, time and effort to create a reserve's side.
UPDATE: The reserves now have a page of their own. www.hallamfc.co.uk/hallamreserves.htm
UPDATE 2: The above also applies to the Under 19s as well. www.hallamfc.co.uk/hallamunder19s.htm
UPDATE 3: Ignore anything below paragraph 2. The information is on the Reserves page.
Tom
I know people probably won't agree with this but I label this as a must win after the defeat to Long Eaton. Its clear there is a lot of sides that are capable of finishing top three. Bridlington are the pace setters with Pickering Town 2nd. Liversedge is a side I said would be top four this year and at this early stage lie in 3rd position.
A win at the Clayborn would be fantastic, we still have three tough away games to come before we face Mickleover Sports in our first home game of the season. This Hallam side is capable of getting 9 points at the minimum from these 4 matches. We don't want to fall into a losing streak after losing to Long Eaton. I don't think losing to Long Eaton has made this a must win game because Liversedge are always going to be tough opponents and victory versus them will give us confidence.
Our recent record versus Liversedge is very good. Two 1-0 victories in our last two visits and a 0-0 draw last season and 1-0 win in season 2006-2007 at home. Such strong results against such a difficult opponent is good but we must keep our feet on the ground and remember who we are facing.
The statistics to this game are important, they were beaten themselves on Monday to a Selby Town side we'd beaten 2 days previously. Liversedge also have three tough trips after us and likewise will want the victory. Taking these two factors into account makes it seem like a mammoth task. I will not deny it isn't but we are definitely capable of winning
A victory on Saturday would be an achievement and show the rest of the league we can beat the best in the league.
I look forward to Saturday's game.
Thanks
Tom
After a decent result at Selby on Saturday Hallam could not turn possession into goals today as we went by 2 goals to one to a Long Eaton side who looked dangerous on the break
Alex Steadman scored one and set one up as Long Eaton scored in the 10th and 59th minutes and despite Rob Ward knocking one in late on and despite a late flurry from there Hallam couldn't get back further into the game
Next game is Saturday away to Liversedge in a 3rd vs 4th clash.
After 3 wins out of 3 and two of them at grounds I said we would face our toughest challenge's on. So far, so good. Long Eaton have had a mix of results, beating Maltby Main 3-1, losing 1-0 to Parkgate and drawing with Pickering, all at home.
Unlike ourselves they won in the FA Cup and now face Rushall Olympic at home after defeating Arnold Town 2-1 on Gedling Miners Welfare's pitch. With this some of their players may have their mind on the Rushall game rather than us.
There is no reason why we shouldn't win, the start we've had is fantastic and one of our best in recent years. Winning against Long Eaton would yet again prove we can be a top 2. I say it every game but every game is a different challenge, home or away.
I am hoping to see some good football this weekend, on holiday I saw a Ryman Premier League match where the quality was poor. However I don't think this will be the case at Grange Park on Monday afternoon, if it is anything like the last Hallam game I saw here (in 06/07, Knaggsy's 93rd minute 30 yard belter in a 3-2 win) then it'll be a treat.
It is also important not to divert our minds to next weekend's clash, I'm not going to name to the opposition in this preview but it will be a massive game for us.
I look forward to Monday afternoon where hopefully we'll make it 4 wins in 4.
Prediction: As I wasn't far wrong Saturday, I'd say 3-1 Hallam
TJ
After what I'd call a success in the Retford game, I'll be bringing my camera again and I should be stood at the back of the Big Jim stand. Hopefully I'll get some better footage and photos.
Hallam came from behind to record a superb 2-1 victory at the Flaxley Road Ground against Selby Town. After a Sean Gorman goal on 24 minutes it was Rob Ward's penalty just after the half hour and goal on the hour that gave Hallam the victory
Just like to say to any players reading this....FANTASTIC WIN ! !
See everyone Monday against Long Eaton United
TJ
Hallam will look to continue their rampaging start to the league season with an incredibly tough but by no means impossible trip to Selby Town on Saturday afternoon.
Anyone who has our archive results and tables since 1998/1999 will know this is our best time to play Selby in all those years. Forget the Cup exit, it happens, its most probably fate.
From Batesy and Tev scoring between them 51 goals in our 102 goal haul last season we have had 7 different scorers in the league already (1 own goal at Shirebrook as well) a lot of sides will find us difficult to defend against with so much attacking threat.
A win on Saturday by any margin will send out a clear message to teams that we mean business and a win on a scale such as the Shirebrook and Lincoln M.R games will frighten a lot of teams. The most we can do is win though, I'm not interested in being top three at Christmas and falling apart or doing a Glapwell winning 11 in a row then have a side who look like they haven't met.
Prediction: It is really a stab in the dark but I'll go 2-0 Hallam
TJ
I had posted some bits in the guestbook while away as although I had access to the freewebs homepage I had trouble with logging in. Don't worry I've kept the the same password for the entire 35 months on this site and it turned out to be the freewebs page itself
So Hallam destroyed Lincoln M.R 4-0 at Newark Road, Tev, Knaggsy, Rob Ward and Tom Kotylo scoring the goals. It has to be said that although its not a tough fixture on paper but its a 58 mile journey in midweek so a great win.
The Ramsbottom result is one in my opinion benefits us more than affects us, it was 2-0 defeat, 2 first half strikes from the Rams. My friend a Mossley fan noted Hallam were poor but improved as the game went on. People will mention the prize money increase and so on about its benefits but I'd rather Hallam lose in a Cup than the league because the league is the main one for us. Our exit and other teams progression around us gives us chance to gain a lead at the top of the league and leave other sides on catch up. Being ahead is always a psychological advantage and this helps at any stage of the season
This Saturday we have one of our biggest tests we'll face this season as we travel to Flaxley Road Ground to play Selby Town, if we win we will send out a clear message to teams that we mean business. Check out the Next Match Preview for more info
Tom
Hallam ripped Lincoln Moorlands Railway apart 4-0 tonight.
Next game is Ramsbottom United AWAY on SUNDAY
IGNORE THE NCEL WEBSITE. I HAVE THIS INFO FROM RAMSBOTTOM, THE FA AND TONY KEMPSTER.
Thanks
Tom
Hallam went rampant at Langwith Road smashing six past Shirebrook's goalkeeper in a 6-2 rout. The signs already look good for Hallam as Shirebrook are a decent side and are highly tipped by many to finish up the table.
Goals from James Tevendale 12, Richard Patterson 23, Richard Carrington 32 and 51, Dean Short O.G 39 and Tom Kotylo. Lee Hunt 30 and Adam Kimberley 35, scored for the hosts.
I wish I'd travelled, the weather putting me off and the fact I go away this coming week.
I won't be at either Lincoln Moorlands Railway or Ramsbottom United unfortunately. I will update the website with those results. The Selby Town match looks highly unlikely with a friend having bought me and him Buxton vs FC United of Manchester tickets.
Thanks Tom
Hallam travel to a side who they've had good form against in the last two seasons. Results vs Shirebrook Town as follows from 2006/2007, Hallam 1 Shirebrook Town 0, Shirebrook Town 1 Hallam 4, Hallam 6 Shirebrook Town 0 and Shirebrook Town 0 Hallam 3. Its fair to say though that Hallam have played decent football in the three matches I saw.
Shirebrook will though this year be a tough side to beat, impressive signings and some good results, the same can be applied to Hallam but given recent results vs Shirebrook our opposition will want to reverse the current trend of defeats
A good start is essential for Hallam in a push for top four which I know Hallam are capable of, Rob Ward, James Tevendale and Scott Bates are very good strikers having all played at a higher level. This year will one of the brightest in the club's history with just 2 years until our 150th birthday.
Thanks
Tom
2-0 defeat although Belper fans have said Hallam played some decent football and so the 2-0 result is all that bad
Tom
Tonight sees the return of ex Hallam striker Anthony Wilson to Sandygate after moving to Belper last season. Belper have enjoyed impressive form over pre-season and like ourselves are unbeaten, beating Hednesford Town, Shirebrook Town, Ossett Albion, drawing with Hucknall and having one game vs Worksop abandoned.
Hallam have beaten two Unibond sides so far in pre-season and I'm sure we will push Belper hard tonight, it won't be easy but I'm sure we can beat Belper.
This is our last home game for quite a while, 20th September infact when we played Winsford United in the FA Vase, and our last friendly match of pre-season. The season starts on Saturday with a trip to Shirebrook Town and followed by next Wednesday's trek to Lincoln Moorlands Railway
Tom
Hallam won 3-1 against Ossett Albion thanks to goals from James Tevendale after 5 and 35 minutes. Shane Kelsey pulled one back 5 minutes from time before Chris Wood restored the 2 goal advantage moments after
Scott Bates and James Tevendale scored in a good win for Hallam tonight against strong Unibond opposition.
My report is now on site at 22:22
Photos and videos of tonight's game are on the Snapshots and Videos page
Also up is YouTube link combining photos and my videos.....
Tom
Hallam host Retford United in what looks to be a match to see. Hallam have only played 2 friendly matches (as far as I'm aware) so far but have won them both convincingly 3-0 v Teversal and 7-1 v Kiveton Park. Retford have played 4 matches themselves vs Rossington (3-1 win) vs East Stirlingshire (1-1), Ilkeston Town (2-1) and a 3-2 defeat to Lincoln City. I don't think this means much myself but opinions differ on pre-season results
I personally have watched 2 matches so far this pre-season and I've seen 11 goals but I don't expect a high scoring affair tonight. There is no question playing the Unibond South Champions will be tough for us as I suspect Retford will send a strong side.
UP THE HALLAM ! !
Tom
Tonight I will do a report and expect to take some photos of the ground for the new improved Sandygate page. I also intend to take photos the game itself and possibly video bits of it. I want this site to be high quality in what ensures to be an exciting season for Hallam
Hallam played Kiveton Park this week and won convincingly by 7 goals to one
See everyone Tuesday night at Sandygate for Hallam vs Retford United
Tom
Kiveton Park game called off very late, didn't know it was off till 9pm and I'm glad I didn't travel
Glossop game called off on Saturday, Worksop and Sheffield F.C games also cancelled
We have 3 friendlies left

I think the fixture list is very good, we are playing every game in the league away until the Saturday 27th September, this is made up by the fact we have 7 home games in a row from Saturday 27th December to Saturday 7th February.
Fixtures that have been postponed will remain in there but rearranged matches will be placed in as well. All rearranged league games and arranged Cup matches will have dates confirmed in the News section then added to the fixture list
The timing of the 6 long distance matches is good. The six themselves aren't only far but tough places to grab a win, these will be our main tests.
Selby Town and Lincoln M.R in August. We haven't beaten Selby away since September 5th 1998, the same season we walloped Pickering Town 8-2 away from home and finished as league top scorers with 95. We have never beaten Lincoln M.R away as far as I'm aware due to the small number of games we've played against them. Hall Road Rangers in early December, a tough, tough match. Their home record last season with 2nd to Dinnington Town whose goal difference was 4 higher.
We haven't beaten Pickering since 7th September 2002 but they are by no means unbeatable at home. Winterton have lost just twice in the league at home in 40 months they are beatable and Hallam will beat them at West Street. Finally Bridlington Town is a long trip in early April but worth it if you can get there, if I go I will venture up for the weekend.
Tom
Unlike last season's encounter between the two sides Hallam did the business this year by winning 3-0 at the Teversal Grange Sports & Social Centre
Well Done to the boys in Blue...
Tom
ILKESTON TOWN VS HALLAM ON THURSDAY 17TH JULY IS BEING PLAYED AWAY FROM THE NEW MANOR GROUND AND BEHIND CLOSED DOORS FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY
Hallam won’t need to worry about a trip to the North East of England as all games and eventualities have been generous in terms of distance
The FA Cup
Saturday 16th August
Ramsbottom United vs. Hallam - this is an away match, not home match reversed
Saturday 30th August
Mossley vs. Hallam – if we beat Ramsbottom United
Saturday 13th September
Maltby Main or Bottesford or Abbey Hey or Flixton vs. Hallam - if we beat Ramsbottom and Mossley
The FA Vase
Saturday 20th September
Hallam vs Winsford United
Saturday 4th October
Alsager Town vs Hallam – if we beat Winsford United
What seems an easy 40-mile trek over the Pennines to Ramsbottom is a 55-mile journey! Ramsbottom is 37 miles from here in Chapel en le Frith, so its not that much easier for me. Rest assured I will be there!
Mossley would give me a chance again to see my friend Aaron Flanagan who’s Dad John was assistant at Woodley Sports last season. From what I’ve heard the ground is colder than Buxton being right on the edge of the Pennines
Should we get past Mossley and Ramsbottom (which will be tough) we travel to Maltby, Bottesford, Abbey Hey or Flixton. I can’t see Abbey Hey or Maltby getting through their games and I think it will be Flixton away. Flixton as we know from the 2006 FA Vase are a tough side to play
We play Winsford again in the Vase and a replay would take us to 70 miles to West Cheshire on a Tuesday night! In my opinion its win or lose at Sandygate! A replay would be unthinkable
If we beat Winsford United, replay or not its Alsager away a trip to East Cheshire but still 56 miles!
Tom
Hallam's attempt to lift the Premier Division title has been boosted by the capture of four players.
And, the Sandygate outfit have also signed centre-half Matt Griffin who was at Division One champions, Dinnington Town.
Boss Darren Bland said: "I am delighted to have signed these four players as all of them were on our wanted list which is very satisfying.
"I thought we might get a couple of them, but to get all four is a real bonus and will definitely make us a stronger unit for this season.
"Richard has proved to be a thorn in my side every time I've been involved with a side that he has played against.
"He's hard working, loves a tackle and knows where the back of the net is. He will be a huge asset to us this season.
"Richard was a big part of Parkgate's success over the last few seasons winning the Division One title and the Wilkinson Sword Trophy in 2006/07 before helping them to the League Cup Final last season.
"Darren Holmes will bring a wealth of experience with him. He is a skilful hard-working player who also has an eye for a goal or two.
"I've admired Holmesy for some time and am so excited he has decided to come to Hallam.
"Darren's previous clubs include Sheffield, Buxton, Gainsborough Trinity and Alfreton Town.
"He also has Football League experience with Darlington and Sheffield Wednesday for whom he played in the European Cup.
"Tom Kotylo is a big strong fit lad who hasn't played at this level before, but I'm sure he will make his presence quickly felt and I know he is looking forward to the challenge.
"Finally, Matt Griffin is a big, no-nonsense centre half - the kind of lad you would want in the trenches with you!
"He will add a massive presence to us and, for a big lad, he can play a bit too."
