Our ground ! !

Name: Sandygate

Location: Sandygate Road, Sheffield

Directions:

From the North: M1 to Junction 36 and travel on the A61 through Sheffield past Sheffield Wednesday F.C until there is a KFC on the right. Take a right here and follow past all the shops and Towsure until you see a sign for the A57 on the left (you should now be on a one way system) take a left here and follow. On the left after a while is a steep turning and a road called 'Hagg Hill', follow Hagg Hill to the top and take a right, don't turn off and follow to the top where there is a pub straight ahead. Take a right and on the left you will see a road called Coldwell Lane. Follow Coldwell Lane to the top and then take a left, the ground is on the right. This route isn't suitable for coaches.

From the South: Leave the M1 at Junction 29 and follow the A617 to Chesterfield. Once at Chesterfield follow signs for the A61 Sheffield, don't head off the A61 continue on it towards Sheffield City Centre. After 10 miles on the A61 you will see a retail park on the right and Lowfield School on the left, at junction take the 1st left and follow this down Bramall Lane past Sheffield United F.C and take a left at the bottom of Bramall Lane onto the ring road. (On United home matchdays, continue forward past Lowfield School (bearing left) at the previous junction and take a right onto London Road, follow this onto the Ring Road and turn left). At the Ring Road follow this to the roundabout, go straight on signposted M1 and A61 North. (On S.W.F.C matchdays this can be an extremely busy road) at the top of dual carriageway go straight on then take a left at the next roundabout onto the A57. Continue on the A57 until you reach the B.P petrol station, take a left after this then immediately bear right onto Sandygate Road, continue up the hill and down it, ground is on the left.

From the West: M60 to Junction 24, M67 to its end and follow the A57, go through Glossop, over the Snake Pass and towards Sheffield. At the water treatment works ignore all signs for the M1 North or Rivelin and go up the hill instead. You will come round a corner and a road signed Coldwell Lane on the right, go up Coldwell Lane to the top and take a left, ground is on the right. My best advice in midweek is to allow 1 hour minimum to get from the M60 Junction 24 to Sandygate, from the M67 to Glossop is a huge bootleneck between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.

All fans travelling from South of the Manchester area: M6 to Junction 16 and A500 towards Stoke and follow the A34 to Congleton. Once at Congleton follow all Buxton A54 signs and head out of Congleton on the A54. Once at Buxton continue into the Town Centre, at the roundabout near to the Aldi and viaduct continue straight on and then bear left on the A6 Stockport and Manchester. After going through Dove Holes take a right at the roundabout and follow this to the Inn at the top. Continue on the A623 through Peak Forest and take a left at the Anchor Inn towards Bradwell, go through Bradwell and Brough and take a right at the Travellers Rest to Bamford. At Bamford you will see the Sickleholme Petrol Station, take a left and go through Bamford towards the A57. Take a right at the T-Junction after 2 miles on the A57 to Sheffield. Once approaching Sheffield you will see the Water Treatment works...

For coaches: Follow the A57 until you reach the BP petrol station on the right, take a right just before it and then bear right up the hill, go down the hill and the ground is on the left.

For non coaches: You will see a road called Coldwell Lane, take a right up it and take a left at the top. Ground on the right. The club car-park gets full early, go past the pub on the left and turn right into Cardoness Drive, park here and then retrace your steps down the road to the entrance.

Public Transport Links:

If travelling from within Sheffield find your way to Arundel Gate and take the 51 bus at the Crucible Theatre to Sandygate Road, the bus stop is 50 yards from the entrance.

If travelling from outside Sheffield, from the train station follow signs for way-out and walk out of the station to the traffic lights. Cross this road and go straight across from the crossing and walk underneath the blue shelter. At the end of this, walk left and upto the T-Junction, cross onto the otherside and head up the hill. On the left you will see some steps then and an underground. Go up the steps, through the underground walkway and up the steps on the other side, go back on yourself and you will the Crucible Theatre on the right up the hill. Cross the road and go up the hill to the bus-stop stating 51 on it. (, this is one of the last ones)

When you reach Sandygate:

Our admission is: £5 and £3

Our stands: One 250 seat stand on the near side, HFC is spelt in white on the blue seats and one small covered terrace behind the near goal. Both of these giving an undisrupted view of the game.

You can drink: In the clubhouse that has a bar, a TV in the corner and room for visiting officials. The clubhouse also has ladies and gents toilets in one corner and seating. For teas, soup, etc go to the servery which is located to the side of the main stand.

You can eat: You can enjoy a Pie, Chips, Hot Dogs, chocolate bars and more from our servery.

For anyone interested in footballing history: Our ground is 148 years old, we have played at Sandygate since our formation all those years ago. The oldest ever footballing derby was played at Sandygate on Boxing Day 1860 and won by Sheffield F.C. The slope is still here and so are Hallam Cricket Club who use 2/3rds of our pitch from Late April to Mid September, 204 years since they were founded.
