Goal Frenzy at Appleby

Chris Sellars said he wanted his players to show some fight and to be proud to wear the Hallam shirt, well if last night's performance and eventual result are anything to go by we are in for an exciting season.

Although Sam Read's 9th minute goal was equalised , Mark West added a second for the Countrymen on 32 minutes for Hallam to lead 2-1. Then in a sudden turnaround of events  goals from Luke Neul on 33 then a double from Tom Hobson on 43 and 45 (Pen) meant Appleby went in 4-2 up at the break.

Hallam needed a swift response in the second period but instead Jon Nicholls scored a fifth for the home team and everyone thought game over .......... but not this Hallam side.

Reduced to 10 men the Countrymen hit back with Sam Read scoring his second on 57 minutes and all of sudden a come back was on the cards. Sezerano Herne on 69 and Antonio Alveraz Rivera on 82 ( not two common names you would associate with a team from Sheffield 10) drew the Countrymen level and eveyone was ready to accept a well earned point.

Sam Read thought differently, completing his hat trick on 90 minutes to give Hallam all three points in this remarkable game.
