Cruel End to Cup Battle

This FA Vase pairing was always going to be a feisty affair matching up Hallam with old boss Julian Watts and a team including several of last seasons Countrymen.
Although Shirebrook started stronger Hallam soon settled and showed their visitors that they were up for the fight. Ironically it was Danny Booth who gave the visitors the lead and at that point one wondered if it would open the gate to further goals. This was not the case and Hallam came back into the game and drew level with a Brad Sampson Penalty just before the break.
In the second half it was Shirebrook who enjoyed the greater possession however the Countrymen always looked capable of creating problems on the break and just when everyone felt extra time could be on the cards a wicked cross from the right was turned into his own goal by the unlucky Rob Adgie to give the visitors the victory.
In the second half it was end to end with Shirbrook keeping the ball but the Contrymen looking sharp on the break.
