Hallam Down in the Mouth

Posted 26th October 2013 - Posted in Match Reports

Hallam fc lose at home for the first time in the league this season at the hands of the Yorkshire Amateurs.

A first half slightly edged by Hallam was brought into life early on after they took a   1-0 lead, and showed a dominance to win this game until a debatable throw-in decision lead to a long ball over the top catching Hallam’s high line off guard, with the Amateur man one-on-one with the goalkeeper a badly timed challenge left the referee with no choice but to send the Hallam defender off.

Although being a man down they continued to dominate this match, playing some nice football and with a slight flick on from a long throw parried by the Amateur goalkeeper Hallam looked like they could extend their lead. A well delivered corner cleared away before being fired back at goal was just wide but still Hallam looked keen to extend their lead.

Just before half time the Amateurs had a chance to level it up with a long ball forward towards the right midfielder lead to a cut back to the edge of the area fired a low effort that took a deflection out for a corner kick.

A pretty dominant first half considering the man disadvantage for Hallam.

With the change of ends you would expect a Hallam side to see out this win but being a man light proved a hard process and the Yorkshire Amateurs began to come back into the game. Another long ball over the top caught Hallam out once more but the shot was fired straight at the goalkeeper after the defence recovered.

The amateurs levelled it all up after a push in the back lead to a free kick that was taken quickly and a delightful ball in from the left-hand side was headed over an undecided goalkeeper.

After an Amateur spell in the game Hallam had a great chance to take the lead after some wonderful passing play created a chance with a low fired effort neatly tipped around the post.

The man advantage began to show as the Yorkshire Amateurs began to take control of the match. A tiring Hallam side continued to play their usual passing game but the long balls over the top continued to prove a handful for them.

As more heated challenged begin to go flying in the Amateurs took a 2-1 lead after a ball over the top that was not dealt with left the striker one on one with the goalkeeper who stood no chance with a well finished off goal slotted home into the bottom left hand corner.

A fierce striker into the bottom left hand corner levelled it up for Hallam and they began to apply the pressure shown in the first half with the chances continuing to come but lacked that clinical edge.

Until a heart-breaking winner for the Amateurs came from a crucial mistake by the Hallam defender, a poor first touch and a slip lead to a thunderous strike into the bottom right-hand corner, a late winner leaving Hallam hardly time to push for an equaliser.
