Lawrence saves the day

After the excitement of the weekends win against Rossington followed closely by the All Star game on Sunday one could excuse the low turnout at Sandygate as the Countrymen welcomed high flying Pontefract.
To be honest it was a scrapy affair with few highlights to reflect on however it was a gritty performance from the home side who dug in against a team who never really justified their lofty position. In fact in a first half that swung from end to end and with few clear cut chances, it was a Julian Lawrence own goal that gave the Colleries their 1-0 half time lead.
Coming down the slope you hoped that Hallam would gain some momentum in the second half but the final ball was sadly lacking and it was one of those nights when you felt an equaliser might not come. Then in the final 15 minutes of the game and after two positive substitutions the home side started to look more dangerous and flashed a couple shots across the goal that could have been defelcted in on another day. With five minutes left Rob Adgie, reliable as ever, made a penetrating run and played a perfect ball into the path of Kallum O'Kane whose first time effort beat the keeper all ends up but rebounded off the cross bar and away from danger.
Then in the final minute when Pontefract must have thought they had done enough to take all three points Hallam won another corner out on the left. This time Carlton Dickenson's kick was perfection , swung inwards to the far post and there was that man Julian Lawrence to head home and secure a vital point for the Countrymen that they deserved given the effort and commitment throughout the team.
