Aquaforce too strong

Hallam more than held their own tonight against second placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce and showed real desire to try and get something out of the game and a hard working performance in the end could have been much more in terms of the result.
A nervous start for Hallam cost them dearly, a more physical Aquaforce team, early on, were showing their class and inevitabley it cost them an early goal. The ball was picked up from just inside the Hallam half and a darting run which was not closed down quickly enough as Shane Kelsey cut inside before firing into the bottom left-hand corner leaving Hallam looking shocked.
They then began to settle down on the ball and play their game, a more physical Hallam then began to push forward and create a chance for themselves. A cheap free-kick given away by Aquaforce lead to a free ball into the box met by Liam Morris who should have done better as it goes narrowly passed the post, a great chance never the less. Another great chance soon after came from a quick throw-in deep inside the Aquaforce half, some well worked play to create himself some space for the cross to the far post which was met by the on rushing midfielder who tried to guide it into the bottom corner but just could not get the accuracy needed. Once more Hallam continued to press and created other chances that on a different day could have gone in.
After two glorious chances of their own, Hallam began to live a little more dangerously and with a shot coming back firstly off the post then shortly after off the crossbar Hallam could not clear there lines and if it was not for some last ditch defending by Hallam on the line they could have been two behind before half time.
Hallam came out more attacking in the second half and looked bright, they began to press higher up the field relieving the pressure on the backline. The best chance of the second half for Hallam came early on and it came from some good passing play coming from the left-hand side; a lovely weighted ball was put into the box, met by the forward who just could not generate the power and accuracy on the ball to cause any real danger.
Soon enough after all Hallam’s pressing play and missed chances it came back to haunt them as Aquaforce and the outstanding Kelsey scored a second. An unnecessary free-kick was given away and the ball into the box was not cleared, and after some scrappy work the ball fell to Kelsey and he made no mistake from a few yards out.
On another day this game could have ended differently however Aquaforce showed there clinical finishing and why they are challenging for a promotion spot.
It was a hard working and industrious performance from Hallam’s with a lot of positives to take into the final two games of the season.
