Blades run close
0Posted 22nd July 2014 - Posted in Match Reports A good crowd enjoyed the evening summer sun at Sandygate along with a very entertaining game between the young Blades and Steve Toyne's new look Hallam. In fact the Countrymen took the lead on the half hour through Reece Davis before a double from United's Jake Wright gave the Blades a 2-1 lead at the break. Hallam almost changed the full side at the interval given the size of the current squad and the challenge for places however the Blades went further ahead with a deflected free kick in the opening minutes of the second period and looked as if they would push on from there. To their credit the Countrymen held their discipline and looked dangerous when they did manage to break. With ten minutes left they were back in the game. A free kick from the left hand side was swung towards the back post where Lewis Whittiker met it with a fine header. The final score of 3-2 was a fair reflection on the night's proceedings and the Countrymen look forward to taking on the Owls next Monday.
