Chairman's New Year Message

Posted 31st December 2015 - Posted in Chairman News Chairman's New Year Message

As we leave 2015 behind I’d like to reflect on what an amazing year it’s been for the club on and off the field.

Starting with us retaining the Alan Cooper Memorial Trophy in our annual game with our great friends Sheffield F.C. drawing a crowd of over 300, amazing!

We then staged three charity games in a row to raise much needed funds for St.Lukes Hospice, Prostate Cancer UK and The Saving Lives Foundation.

We raised in the region of £12,000 over the 3 games something that we are immensely proud of and would especially like to thank Chris Waddle for again bringing his All Star team to Hallam, Steve Nicholas and Mike Gabbitas and their all-star teams for their work, the Staff of Claremont hospital for their efforts and John Hemmingham for Prostate Cancer UK.

None of these games could have gone ahead of course without our own amazing band of volunteers who worked to exhaustion over the 3 games, what an incredible effort they all made.

We then went unbeaten for 8 games and topped the league in the early stages-something that we haven’t done for a long time. There were some fantastic performances and the team reflected the work ethic that Ryan, Stuart and Rob have instilled in the players.

Unfortunately we lost 6 players to injury and suspensions which saw us slip down the league and we currently lay in 8th position but with games in hand we hope to get back in the top 6 very soon and I know we will be there come next April. We also had our best run in the F.A. Vase for many years and are currently in the Semi-Final of the Senior Cup.

Congratulations to Callum Greaves who got his well-deserved contract at Chesterfield F.C. something we are all proud of and I’m sure there will be more to come on that front.

We currently stand 5th in the attendance table with an increase of nearly 50% on last season and an average of 116, which is a reflection on what Ryan and his team are doing on the field and the experience we are producing off the field.

Darren, Rob and their team are producing some excellent players from the U19’s which bodes well for the future of the club, so many thanks to you guys, along with the boys from Hallam Wisewood who are also feeding some very talented youngsters through for the senior team. Mick and his U14’s have found the going tough in their new league, but they knew they would and are up for the challenge for the rest of the season.

Our Hallam 1860 vets were again our most successful team doing the double once more.

2016 is going to be a special year for one of our staff, the legend that is our Ann who will celebrate 60 years at the club, what an achievement. We have some very special things coming up for her so watch this space.

Finally I would like to wish all the very best for 2016 to all our brilliant fans, amazing staff, fantastic players, inspirational manager and very generous sponsors especially Howard at Cactus for the great new kit. We would also like to wish our Non-League neighbours at Sheffield F.C., Handsworth Parramore and Stocksbridge Park Steels all the best for 2016 too.

Special thanks to Jane my missus for all her hard work and for putting up with me!

It’s going to be a very exiting 2016 for the club on and off the field so stick with us and see you all at Sandygate very soon.

All the very best everybody.
