This evening we take on Athersley Rec in the second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association Senior Cup, in association with Bluefin Insurance.

The trophy, first played for in 1876, will be making an appearance at Sandygate and will be available for photo opportunities.

The Sheffield Challenge Cup is the 7th Oldest Football trophy in the World and the tournament has been running since 1876 and the 2016-17 Season is its 140th Anniversary.  It was first competed for during the 1876-77 Season, four years afterthe FA Cup and 10 years after the Youdan Cup.

It was first won by The Wednesday Football Club in a 4-3 [AET] victory over Heeley in the inaugural final, played at Bramall Lane on 10th March 1876.  It was refereed by JC Shaw, joint-founder of Hallam Football Club, in his role as President of the Sheffield Associations.
