Managers Notes - Stephen Whitehead - 22nd August

Glenn Poulton spoke with joint Manager Stephen Whitehead before tonight's game with Selby Town.

Thoughts on the FA Cup game v Atherton Collieries?
We're disappointed with the result really and didn't think that the score line was a fair reflection on the game. I thought we were on top for long periods of the game but when you are on top you need to capitalise and score goals as that's the thing that win you games an unfortunately we didn't do that.

What positives can we take out of the FA Cup loss?
I thought the lads put another great shift in and that's pleasing to see. We can really see a team spirit coming together and spreading through the squad. I'm sure when we get that first win we will start to relax an the wins will keep coming.

Is a lack of league goals a concern or to early too worry yet?
I think a lack of goals is always a worry but we've added to the squad in that area so we hope that the lads that get picked in the forward positions can start to repay us with goals it was good to see Woody get of the mark at the weekend and again hopefully that will be the start many more to come.

Do you know much about tonight's opponents Selby?
They have won 2 on the bounce so they will be no mugs so we will need to show the levels of commitment that we have shown in the last few games. They have a lad who's scored a few already this year so will have to keep an eye on him.

How are the three new signing settling in?
Early days yet but they all come with bags of potential and good quality so it will be good to see how they develope in the team over the next few games. Hopefully Matt Morton and Josh Birds can help out with scoring a few goals and that Browny gives us competition in a few positions but again he's a great player that comes from Sheffield Utd.

Is it a positive or a negative he that there is no game this coming Saturday?
A negative I think as we want the games to keep coming now as there are teams that have played 5 or 6 games an already have a lot of points on the board.

What are the manager plans for Saturday with there being no game?
We will be going to watch a game to have a look at future opponents so that we can see there strengths and weakness.

Also anything else you'd like to add?
Just again to say thank you for the great support that keeps coming and hopefully we can start to repay the fans with some wins in the up and coming weeks.
