Hallam unable to shatter Glasshoughton

Hallam FC 0 – 3 Glasshoughton

Hallam returned to Sandygate on the back of a good win at AFC Emely but two recent losses. The team was looking to chip away at the points separating them from a playoff spot.

A slow start started to gather pace after ten minutes and it was Hallam that produced the early chances with penetrating runs down the left and right from messer Dunne and Ord. A Hallam corner produced the best attempt at goal with a looping Chris Woods header guided just over the bar by Mitchell Dunne.

As the half seemed to be heading towards a stalemate Glasshoughton took the advantage with a well worked set peace allowing Andrew McManus to head in off the inside of the woodwork.

The second half saw a number of chances for Hallam but the Glasshoughton keeper, Zaniewski, was “on form” and was able to deal with the most audacious attempts.

As the temperature dropped at Sandygate so did the chances of an equaliser as another Glasshoughton set peace left Andy Hornbury heading in number 2.

Then a glimmer of hope for Hallam as James Reed steps up to take a free kick just outside the Glassy penalty area. His attempt looked good all the way but just stayed lofted enough to glance off the top of the crossbar.

As Hallam continued to push forward a long hoofed clearence from Glasshoughton allowed Reece Horn to run forward into the Hallam Half under full sprint and slotted the ball past an approaching Sneith.

So it ended up 3-0 to Glasshoughton and perhaps not a reflection of the balance of the game but more that Glasshoughton took their chances when they got them.
