We were saddened to hear of the passing of our club histortian on July 9th. Hallam committee member, Ann Holland, takes up her memories of John.
"John lived at Fulwood and was a season ticket holder and brought his two daughters with him, Tracey the eldest and Ellan. He was invited onto the committee and took on the roll of researching the clubs history and went about producing the book 'The Countrymen' and getting it printed.
After he was made redundant from Henry Boot in 1984 he took on the job of groundsman and one day whilst at ground he went to The Plough pub for his lunch and came back to find the goal nets had been taken, so you can imagine the jokes about that.
He even did a bit at the ground the day Tracey, his daughter, got married. He continued as groundsman until his wife Irene died when he moved to the Tadcaster area but continued to travel back to Sandygate on a Saturday to watch.
He then did a updated addition of the book and this is the shortened version."
All at Hallam FC would like to send our condolences to John's family and friends.
